My first post, so please be gentle!
My daughter is almost 6 and we'd like her to start piano lessons. I'm significantly older and would like to learn too! I can read music, but can only play basic right-handed stuff on a keyboard (self-taught from having an organ as a child )I've read/been told that Yamaha are the best brand to go for, but was bombarded with a strong sales pitch in favour of Kawai at our nearest piano shop. After reading reviews of Kawai on ukpianos, I think I still favour Yamaha, but have read some good things about Classenti. Given that I could get either the Yamaha CLP320 or the Classenti CDP2 for a similar price online (c. £800-820) would one be more appropriate than the other for a beginner (esp my daughter)? I haven't been able to see either model in the flesh (yet). I'm not interested in any fancy additions, just a well made piano with a good sound and, most importantly, the best/most realistic keys for learning. Thanks in anticipation

Or would the Yamaha YDP140 or Classenti CDP1 be more than sufficient for our needs??

Both pianos would be good for your daughter to learn on.
The Yamaha has a better sound and also more features. The Classenti has a more realistic key touch - it feels closer to playing a real piano. The Yamaha comes with a 3 year warranty. The Classenti comes with a 5 year warranty. It's very important to get a piano with a solid, heavy-weighted key touch. my recommendation would be to go for the Classenti. Or, if you can spend a bit more, then the Yamaha CLP330 or CLP340. You can read more about them here: http://www.ukpianos.co.uk/yamaha-clp320.html http://www.ukpianos.co.uk/classenti-cdp2.html |

Great, thanks for your prompt reply.
I don't really want to stretch the budget to the CLP330 just in case it doesn't work out. But then the resale would be better on this than an £800 Classenti I guess! I'm only cautious about buying a Classenti because everyone seems to recommend Yamahas (well, not everyone, but all the piano tutors I've spoken to!) Would you agree that both of these options are better than the Kawai CN22 I was being persuaded to buy this morning? And just some general reassurance! Do you think that 6 is a good age to start to learn? Not too young? Thanks again |

Hmm, now thinking we should push the boat out and go for the CLP330!
I'm assuming the weight is comparable/better than the Classenti on this model? |

Well, it is a difficult decision, they're both fabulous pianos. The Yamaha is better all-round, but costs a lot more, of course. You won't be disappointed whichever one you choose.
